Goondiwindi is located 363 km south west of Brisbane on the Queensland/New South Wales border and is at the junction of five major highways. The population is around 5000 and the town services another 6000 in the surrounding Waggamba and Moree Plains Shire Councils.

Origins

• the name Goondiwindi comes from the Aboriginal "Goona Winna" meaning "resting place for the birds"
• the MacIntyre River was discovered in 1827 by explorer Allan Cunningham and large sheep runs were established on both sides of the river.
