February 21st: Over for another year!

It was a cool and cloudy morning that greeted the athletes for the 2008 Chesterfield Australia and John Deere Hell of the West triathlon. With competitors coming from all over Queensland and New South Wales, a near record field was assembled. As the athletes started rolling into transition at 3.30am, there was a look of fear in some competitor’s eyes. This look was usually present in the eyes of those for whom it was their first Hell of the West. It was great to see though that amongst these first timers was a strong contingent of local athletes. As the athletes left the transition area and headed down the road to the boat ramp for the start of the race, one could only wonder about what the day was about to unleash on the athletes. Update November 07

Preparations for the race are well underway with the committee meeting regularly to make the 2008 Hell of the West an experience to remember. We are thrilled to welcome naming rights sponsors John Deere and Chesterfield Australia, first time Hell of the West sponsors. In addition Queensland Events have pledged their support for the next three years to assist us with building on the already successful event.

Enthusiasm for the race is certainly building, with increasing local interest and very positive correspondence from 'out of towners'. With the entries flooding in, the 2008 Hell of the West is shaping up to be another cracker of a race. We do urge people to enter prior to the early bird cut off date of December 20. Not only does this assist us with ordering supplies (ensuring you will get the right size shirt for example) but it also puts you in the running for the Total Immersion taster session. For those athletes who struggle in the swim or want to improve their time this is a must.

Brand new light weight t-shirts that are great for training or heading down the street, can be purchased when you enter, for just $20. We have also produced a Goondiwindi tri club cycling jersey (see below) that will also be available for purchase direct from our supplier at the race.

So pack up your joggers and swimsuits, throw in your sunscreen and your sense of adventure, and come along to compete or watch the notorious "Hell of the West" Triathlon. Entries are available via the website at www.hellofthewest.com. Also make sure to check our accommodation listings and book early for a great weekend in the country.
